1.) Baker Mayfield QB Oklahoma
Grade: C
I had Baker as my third QB. Where I think Baker excels is in his accuracy which is crucial for a QB. What he is going to have to prove is he can make up for his physical limitations. He is a smaller QB and while some have had success, a lot have not. He played in a very college-friendly system as well. One knock on him that does not get talked about a lot is he is 23. He is a couple years older than Rosen and Darnold so he has a little less room for upside as the other two and they may surpass him at the same age with having two years in the league to develop. While Baker gives you an accurate pro-ready QB, the Browns approach of sitting him behind Taylor and learning would have made more sense for one of the other two. It wasn’t the riskiest pick possible but I don’t think it was the best.
4.) Denzel Ward CB Ohio State
Grade: C+
How they passed on Chubb for Ward is beyond me. The pick should have been the best player on defense and I’ll accept the argument that Ward may have been the second-best defensive player in the draft. However, he does have some questions regarding play strength and size issues that question how much he can play on the outside. The fourth overall pick for a nickel corner day one is an overdraft. While he has the tools to be a top-notch corner he is a little riskier and the Browns should have tried to move down to get him instead of doing it at four.
