BROOKLYN, Ohio – Deuce Martin scored 16 points tonight, including a monster Slam Dunk in the first quarter that set the pace for a 74-39 victory for the Clippers of Clearview. The dunk was part of an 8-0 run to start the game for the Clippers.
Martin’s 16 points were part of 4 starters on Clearview to score double digits tonight. Jamel Billings had 12 points, including 6 from behind the arc. DeAri Todd had 11 and Javon Todd had 12. Not to be forgotten in the mix was Sam Daniels with 9.
The Clippers dominated the boards and the key in the opening quarter to build a 16-6 lead after one. The Hurricanes only made two shots, both three-pointers.
The second quarter saw a totally different Hurricane team as they looked inspired and came out firing to get back in the game. Tony Bittala, scored 7 straight points as part of his 10 for the game.
Also in the mix was Willie Cowling who had several big shots tonight, finishing with 10 points as well. Several open looks were set up by the strong arm and vision of John Kenderes. He will need that arm this season in baseball as well, as he is being looked by OU and YSU.
Perhaps the unsung hero of the second quarter was young Isaiah Linder who played great under the basket. His large wingspan and giant heart allowed him to pull down several key rebounds and helped keep the Hurricanes in the game. Brooklyn actually outscored the Clippers in the second quarter 13-11 to pull within 8 at the half, only down 27-19 at the break.
Sadly for the fighting Hurricanes, the size, speed and skill of Clearview was simply too much to deal with in the second half as they pulled away.
Clearview outscored Brooklyn 26-16 in the third and then a whopping 21-4 in the fourth.
The Clearview Clippers improved to 11-3 on the season. They will look for their 12th win on Tuesday night at Firelands.
The Hurricanes will travel to Buckeye High School next Tuesday.
