LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The news broke last night during UFC 199, that in a shocking move, Brock Lesnar is headed back to the UFC for one more fight. It will take place next month at UFC 200 against an opponent to be named in the next 24 hours.
After checking with several sources close to the situation, everyone is remaining tight lipped, as it is currently said that they only people in the know are Dana White, Brock Lesnar and his opponent. The world is set to find out tomorrow.
With several heavyweights already involved in matches at UFC 200, the options aren’t as plenty as one would think, also considering the title match set for Cleveland in September at UFC 203. However, there are 5 strong options.
1 – Frank Mir. He was Brocks first UFC opponent, his first loss, and a man who had real heat with Lesnar. Brock managed to revenge his only loss to Mir at UFC 100 in dominant fashion. A rubber match between the two has long been rumored and wanted. Mir remains the strongest option for Lesnar’s opponent.
2 – Mark Hunt. Despite the size difference between the two, Hunt remains a viable option to face Lesnar and possibly knock him out. Despite his meager record in MMA, Hunt posses a dangerous right hand and could put Lesnar out of the sport for good.
3 – Marc Coleman. Sure, it’s a long shot, but the originator of ground and pound has expressed the desire to fight Lesnar once before. UFC 200 needs nostalgia feel to it somehow, and the GSP rumored return has fallen through, so this could possibly be it. Do not sleep on this option.
4 – Hall of Fame induction? He was a two time champion and one of the biggest draws in the history of the sport. Who says he is fighting at all, perhaps it is just a HOF induction, not out of the realm of possibility.
5 – Stefan Struve. The Skyscraper would be able to match height and size with Brock, and has the national star power to draw a good ppv crowd to it.
It is fun to speculate, but we will all know soon……………………..
