RIO, Brazil – Elyria native Tianna Bartoletta has won gold!
Bartoletta leaped to a personal-best 7.17 meters (23 feet, 6 1/4 inches) in the Long Jump earlier tonight, Good enough not only to break her record, but also to bring home the Gold for The United States.
In the win she defeated reigning champion and fellow American Brittney Reese who held the lead on Bartoletta until the final jump.
She is no stranger to the winners podium as coming into tonight she had previously won two world championships gold medals. Bartoletta also was part of the USA’s world record-setting 4×100 relay in the 2012 Games, running the leadoff leg.
