COLUMBUS – With his father in attendance, Bronny James created his first legendary moment at Sierra Canyon.
With 42 seconds in regulation, the talented freshman, deflected a pass and drove the length of the court for a game clinching layup. Sierra Canyon wouldn’t fall behind again, as the Trail Blazers fought their way to a 59-56 victory over the Fighting Irish Saturday night.
STVM controlled the pace for most of the game, keeping a firm grasp on their lead throughout the contest.
The Fighting Irish really made their presence felt on defense, while the trio of Malaki Branham (14 Pts), Marcus Johnson (13 Pts), and Sencire Harris (11 Pts) made the most significant contributions on offense.
STVM led 52-47 halfway through the final quarter before Sierra Canyon went on a 10-4 run to earn their first lead since the first quarter. Kentucky commit BJ Boston also played a big role in the comeback win for the Trail Blazers, as he finished with an efficient 16 points.
After Bronny’s steal and score, the Fighting Irish had a look for a game tying three pointer, but it didn’t draw iron.
Marcus Johnson would win game MVP for St. Vincent-St. Mary, while Bronny James took home the award for Sierra Canyon.
The Saturday night contest at Nationwide Arena was almost like an opening chapter to a well written story. Bronny made the game winning shot against his father’s alma mater, with LeBron himself actually in attendance. Bronny ended this chapter hoisting his first high school trophy, with many more likely to come over the next couple of decades.
