PARMA, Ohio- With help from Chris Jefferson and Jamari Patterson, the Benedictine Bengals improved to 7-1 by defeating Padua 55-43.
The two guards led in scoring for the Bengals, as Jefferson finished with 16 and Patterson scored 14 off the bench.
“All we had to do is keep our foot on the gas and keep going,” Jefferson said.
After ending the first quarter tied at eight, the Bengals led through out the rest of the game despite Padua cutting the deficit to four to start the fourth.
“We still have to play smart,” Bengals head coach Rob Stircula said. “We had a lot of fouls called on us and that kept them (Padua) in the game but all we did is continue to play hard.”
Despite getting into foul troubles earlier in the game, all the Bengals could do is stay confident in themselves.
“We had to stay confident but it was a good win for the team,” Patterson said. “Once we saw them coming back, we had to push harder.”
Padua was led by Kevin Peterson, who scored 17 points.
Both teams will be back on the floor tomorrow. Benedictine will take on St. Edward in Lakewood and Padua will stay home and face Aurora.
