As the Columbus Blue Jackets make their playoff push, Sunday’s 5-1 win over the New York Rangers earned the team two crucial points to move into third place in the Metropolitan Division.
Columbus came into play one game behind the Rangers, but made sure to take advantage of the opportunity, jumping on the board 62 seconds after the puck dropped.
Alexander Wennberg, who leads the team with 40 assists, scored his first of two goals to give Columbus the early lead.
Former-Blue Jacket Rick Nash responded, tying the game three minutes later.
Cam Atkinson and Wennberg took turns scoring the next three goals for the Jackets and Josh Anderson added on the fifth goal of the game for Columbus with 24 seconds remaining.
Jesper Fast scored a last-second goal to make the score look a bit less lopsided, but the Jackets were in clear control for the vast majority of the night.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves on the night and earned his 32nd win of the season, tying his career high.
