The Berkshire Girls Varsity Soccer team has made a remarkable story this season, by going from worst as Freshman and Sophomores, to third last year, to first this year! No one has experienced the turnaround more so then the gutsy seniors who have stuck things out long enough for the incredible turnaround.
This group of Seniors, went from 0-10 and getting outscored 45-0 in the first two seasons combined of CVC play. Then last year, as Juniors, they started to see a little beacon of hope shine through. They finished third in the CVC in losing to the eventual champs Cuyahoga Heights 4-3 in the last 90 seconds of their hard fought battle. Losing tight ones seemed to be the trend as they also lost in the last few minutes to Wickliffe as well as Independence.
The losing wasn’t easy, but the close calls showed the girls they could compete with the very best in the conference. It gave the Lady Badgers hope heading into the 2017 season. The hope turned into reality this season as the Lady Badgers clinched the CVC title with still one conference game remaining. They went from allowing 55 goals in 15 CVC games over their first three seasons, to allowing a remarkable 2 goals in CVC play this season.
This past Saturday the lady badgers tied the most wins in program history while improving to a perfect 10-0, with a 7-0 victory over previously undefeated VASJ! This is a program on the rise, led by the guidance of soccer general Ricky Nerone.
The story goes to show, that with hard work, passion and a will to survive through any obstacle, things can turn around! This team is impossible not to root for, and we here at NEO Sports are happy to support the dream! Stay tuned for more notes on the Lady Badgers as they begin their postseason run.
They next play Wednesday night at 5:30 at Lordstown where they will go for a single season record win total of 11.
