Berkshire Badgers Topple CCA Patroits 3-2

Last night the Berkshire Badgers kept making history as they topped the 14 win Cornerstone Christian Academy Patriots 3-2.  Berkshire dominated the first half, more specifically, the first 10 minutes but were unable to score.
The Badgers broke through on a beautifully taken corner kick from Lexi Boyk that found the head of Amber Taraska who placed the header back post.  Amber has come up with clutch goal after clutch goal during her career here. For the next few minutes, the Badgers kept the ball in the CCA defensive third, trying to get another goal.
The barrage of offense paid off when Boyk was taken down in the box. This was an extremely physical game. It was playoff soccer and a few notches up in intensity. Sophomore Clara Agawa stepped up and buried a perfectly placed upper 90 PK goal for her 9th goal of the season.
After that goal, the Badgers continued pressure and kept the ball in the Cornerstone side. 6 minutes before half, Lexi Boyk made it 3-0. Clara found Julia Frank outside, who took on a defender and had an absolutely perfect cross that found Lexi’s foot.
It was good to see Julia and Lexi be on the same page tonight. When they are like that, there isn’t an offense around that is better than them! The scary thing is they will both be back next year. It’s honestly terrifying to think about how unreal the offense is going to be next year.
Obviously other teams have taken notice. Lexi is top 5 in the state in goals and assists. Julia is top 7 in the state and assists. If Julia didn’t miss 8 games, she would be right up there with Lexi.  CCA tried to man mark Julia early and Lexi tore them up. Then, they switched to man mark Lexi and that opened Julia up. Then they tried to man mark them both.
With 18 minutes left, star Senior Captain Sell stepped up for a free kick from 25 yards out and buried a beautiful back post shot. With 9 minutes left, the Badgers again gave up a free kick 22 yards away. And again, Sell buried the kick. The Badgers were, however, able to weather the storm in the final minutes to win their first ever Sectional Championship in the school’s soccer history. The Badgers will face Independence Monday 7 p.m. at Berkshire.
