Fairview – The Bay Rockets earned their first win of the season on Friday night, rolling past the Fairview Warriors 35-7.
All five of Bay’s touchdowns came on the ground, as sophomore quarterback Connor Shell accounted for two scores, finishing with 30 total rushing yards on the night.
A plethora of running backs got the job done for the Rockets. Junior Trey Psota got things started, bulldozing his way on the opening drive of the night, capping it off with a five-yard score, which would be his only rushing touchdown of the game.
Psota did not touch the ball in the second half, but finished with 104 yards on 14 carries.
Sean Chambers, a senior, scored two rushing touchdowns in the game, including a 61-yard burst in the third quarter. Chambers only needed five carries to rush for 100 yards \on the night.
Sophomore fullback Matthew Connor had a big night as well, creating holes for his tailbacks, and pitched in with 90 yards on three carries.
It may have been the first win of the season for Bay, but the Rockets look poised to contend in the Great Lakes Conference, as they open up inter-conference play on Sept. 16 against Holy Name (1-1) and will look to keep the momentum rolling from the win over Fairview.
It was a rough night offensively for Fairview, whose only touchdown came courtesy of a 34-yard fumble recovery by junior Demetrius Allen.
The Warriors fall to 0-3 on the season and will host Buckeye (2-1) in their first Patriot Athletic Conference game of the season.
