Baker Mayfield says it’s “time to go to work,” after inking rookie deal

Just in the nick of time, the Browns avoided any possible training camp hold out from No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield by finalizing a deal with the rookie on Tuesday night.

The contract locks up Mayfield for at least the next four years, with that valuable team option available in the fifth year. Mayfield barely waited for the ink to to dry on the paperwork before taking to social media to express how excited he was to officially be a Cleveland Brown.

“Thankful for all the blessings and everybody that helped make this possible!!! Time to go to work,” the Heisman winner captioned a picture of him signing the contract on Instagram.

The Browns faifthful, surely share in Mayfield’s excitment, now knowing thier potential quarterback of the future is locked up for the next half-decade.

Meanwhile, getting his contract situation straightened out is surely a big weight lifted off of the rookie’s chest. Now, his focus can turn strictly to football when training camp opens on Thursday. Mayfield has plenty to prove with veteran Tyrod Taylor slated to start ahead of him. A showstopping training camp and preseason could help convince the franchise’s key decision makers he’s ready sooner than expected.
