Then, when Manziel showed he was ill prepared for the NFL and struggled in his first start, there were more than a few cries for Hoyer to return or for fellow rookie Connor Shaw to start – amazingly, both wound up happening.
With Wednesday’s announcement that Josh McCown would assume his rightful spot as the starting quarterback upon his being cleared from a concussion, the vocal segment of Manziel fans took to Twitter and blogs and cried about how the decision “was going to hold the franchise back” and the team “owed it to the fans to turn Johnny loose.”
Blah, blah, blah. Insert new hot-shot flavor-of-the-month name, and it’s the same rhetoric that’s permeated with this fanbase since 1999.
