Avery Horning scored two goals in Thursday’s District Championship game to lead the Alliance Aviators to a 2-0 victory over Kenston.
“Tonight was a great night,” said Horning. “We knew we had to come out hard, it was going to be a battle. We were able to play a great game overall. The defense played incredible, our keeper had some great saves. I was able to capitalize on a mistake for my second goal. The first one we had a great ball by number 17, Zellie Barnes, she sent one in on a corner and I was able to get it in on my head.”
Alliance Aviators head coach Matthew Horning was proud of the effort and performance his team made in winning the District Championship.
He noted that the Alliance goalie, Nyah Fox, has played great all season as she has not given up many goals. In fact, on the season, Fox now has 106 saves.
“I’m just so proud of the work that they put in,” said Coach Horning. “Tonight we wore a shirt that said 100 days because we started at the beginning of the summer with our first workout, counted 100 workouts. Today was day 100, and now we get to practice on day 101.”
With Avery Horning’s two goals, she now has 13 goals and six assists on the season.
Also, leading Alliance in goals this season includes Royhal Hawkins (11 goals), Ava Dickey (10 goals), and Mady Lake (9 goals).
With the victory, Alliance moves to 15-4-2 and will next play in the Regional Semi-final against Canfield.
