Austin Jackson inks two-year deal with Giants

CLEVELAND– The Cleveland Indians have lost another outfielder to free agency.

Austin Jackson signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. In 2017, Jackson thrived against lefties offensively hitting .352 (43-for-122). Overall, he batted .318 (89-for-280) with 29 extra-base hits, including seven homers and 35 RBIs. His numbers were more impressive when you consider the fact that he missed the entire 2016 season due to a knee injury.

He made arguably the catch of the year at Fenway Park on Aug. 1 when he robbed Boston’s Hanley Ramirez of a homer by leaping over the Red Sox bullpen wall and still managing to hang onto the ball.

Jackson joins Carlos Santana, Jay Bruce, Bryan Shaw, Joe Smith, Boone Logan, Craig Breslow, who have all since departed the Tribe as free agents following the 2017 season.
