CLEVELAND – The Indians have been playing the last six days without stud relief pitcher Andrew Miller, who was shut down on August 2nd with patella tendinitis in his right knee.
Today, Tribe manager Terry Francona stated that Miller is doing well, and he’s working hard to get back to the big league roster sooner rather than later.
“When you go on the DL, you can be much more aggressive treating because he’s not going to pitch that night,” Francona said.
“He’s been in there early, everyday, and when I get here he’s already getting treatment. He may not be ready to come off the day he’s eligible, but by all accounts he’s really doing well.”
The Indians reliever is 4-2 in 2017 with a 1.57 ERA, throwing 54 innings thus far, allowing 10 earned runs. He’s walked 15 and has struck out 78.
Francona said that while Miller may not be back for a few days after the 10-day DL stint, don’t expect to miss much more time than that.
“I don’t think it will be too long after that, but we have to let him get back, there’s no reason to have him miss 10 days and then cut it short by two or three days, we’ll do the right thing,” Francona said.
