On Monday Indians manager Terry Francona said that Andrew Miller will be making a rehab appearance on Wednesday with the AAA Columbus Clippers. If all goes well, Miller will be rejoining the Indians on Friday in Kansas City.
On Friday the Indians will be beginning a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals.
Miller has been on the DL since August 2 with patella tendinitis in his right knee. While the Indians were in Tampa Bay this past weekend Miller tested his right knee with bullpen sessions on Friday and Sunday. Jason Kipnis stood in the batter’s box during a bullpen session on Sunday.
According to Cleveland.com, Miller flew back to Cleveland on Monday, will have a workout at Progressive Field on Tuesday, and will be heading to Columbus for his rehab appearance on Wednesday.
Francona had this update on Andrew Miller’s status:
“If everything goes according to plan he’ll probably join us Friday in Kansas City.”
Francona also had this to say about Miller and also included how much he would like to use him now:
“I’m going to have to put the reins in myself when he comes back. He is such a weapon. Until we get him back into routine of pitching like he has been, we’re going to have to ratchet it back a little bit. I wasn’t really happy with myself on the innings he’s pitched. We’re going to have to keep an eye on that.”
Before heading to the disabled list, Miller was 4-3, had a 1.67 ERA, logged 54 innings pitched in 46 appearances, and struck out 78.
