Miller has worked a lot within the last year with the regular season and playoffs.
Miller worked 93.2 IP last year between reg. season/playoffs. 3rd in AL in relief innings now. DL stints hurts, but maybe a needed break.

According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, Miller had more walks in his last 19 games than he had all of the last season. Miller has given up 10 walks in the last 19 games and only gave up 9 walks all of last season.
In the 2017 season Miller has put up the following numbers:
4-3 in 46 appearances, 54 innings pitched, has a 1.67 ERA, 78 strikeouts, Miller has hit 5 batters.
Cleveland Indians President Chris Antonetti spoke to Inside Pitch on MLB Network Radio about the decision to put Miller on the DL:
“It’s something Andrew has been battling for the last month. It just got to the point where given his workload and volume he pitches, its been tough for him to get through. Rather than ask him to continue to pitch through it, we went to Andrew and thought this made the most sense. We can get it behind us and have him strong for the balance of the season, rather than have him continue to compensate for it.”
