Amherst Comets look to keep playoff hopes alive with a win over Westlake

AMHERST, OHIO– Tonight, the Amherst Comets (5-4) will take on the winless Westlake Demons at home on senior night. Amherst is looking to finish above .500 for the first time since the 2010 season.

The Comets are currently on the outside looking in as far as playoffs are concerned in Division II, Region 6. They are not, however, too far out of the running. Things aren’t entirely in their hands, but a win tonight would keep their playoff hopes alive.

Even with a win, however, the Comets will need a Fremont Ross loss in order to get into the playoffs for the first time since 2008. They will also likely need Midview to beat Avon Lake in another Southwestern Conference showdown, as a Shoremen win could be enough for them to jump into the eighth spot in the region.

Running back Khennedy Scagliozzo, the go-to option for the Comet offense, will do everything in his power to try and keep the Comet season alive.

Westlake on the other hand, is looking to avoid an 0-10 record, and has dropped two close games in the last two weeks against Lakewood and North Ridgeville. Look for them to rely on JJ Coleman and Kevin Walls.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
