We live in a world that has been overtaken by social media and cell phones. It can dictate our lives and drive us to react to everything that surrounds us. So, when Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper recently posted on his Instagram account, “ LOL I wouldn’t mind at all” speculation of what Cooper was referring to began driving Cleveland fans crazy.
In recent weeks Cooper has been in the headlines because he initially didn’t show up for mandatory minicamp in June because of a contract dispute with his team. He wanted more money. Over a week ago, he got more money when the Browns restructured his final year of his deal giving him potentially $25 million this season.
At the same time, there have been two other wide receivers in the NFL, Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers and CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys, who have also been in the news because of similar circumstances and negotiating for more money.
This past week Aiyuk was the subject of trade rumors to land in Cleveland. The rumors had Aiyuk and Cooper swap teams. Was Cooper answering that trade idea in his latest IG post? Or was Cooper responding to something completely separate from any of this dialogue?
That’s where these social media platforms help fuel all this anxiety among fans. Cooper is a savvy veteran and could simply be playing games with the fan base. Who knows?
The honest answer is no one knows what Cooper meant by his recent post.

The fact that the Browns just restructured the final year of his current contract would suggest that the team is happy with Cooper and have no intention of trading him suddenly. But in this day and age, we all are run by trying to play detective and psychologist all at the same time. That’s the product of this time in our society.
There’s football to be played now as we enter the preseason and kickoff to Week 1 of the regular season is September 8th. Hopefully Browns fans can get focused on the game on the field and not worry about social media games played by their players. How on Earth did we all go about our lives back in the day without these cell phones and social media platforms?
Make sure to smell the roses and get some fresh air this week, fans!
