All good in my old Neighborhood: Cavs Edition

All good in my old neighborhood when talking Cleveland Cavaliers!

Watching the Cavs beat a very good Milwaukee Bucks team last night and earning their 14th consecutive victory got me thinking that this team is amazing and spellbinding for fans and media in how they play the game.

Sure, they have had some close ones over so-so teams at best (Blazers and Hornets come to mind) however they handle their business and WIN! Kenny Atkinson has been amazing shuffling the cards and no doubt the dealer has that mojo that leads to winning hands. Last night vs the Bucks it was Max Strus, in the starting lineup, (he takes some heat at times) who covered for Spida and DG’s lack of outside shooting (They were a combined 2-15) and Max was 5-9. Add Wade’s 3-3 and Merrill’s 3-5 and their shooting truly covered for the others.

Something else that has been truly a delightful experience, and I discussed this with stellar sports talk show host Soren Petro (on Sports Radio 810 WHB in KC), is watching the exponential, geometric growth of Evan Mobley and Darius Garland! This is not ONE PLUS ONE EQUALS TWO but multiplication and a wonderful, dizzying pace! There is a dear friend vet sports talk show host in #TheLAND who has moaned before that he does not need to watch players grow, only win. PARDON ME? They are not winning of they are not growing and improving their games and these two young fellas are certainly checking the boxes!

No doubt the straw that stirs the Wine and Gold drink is Donovan Mitchell as he contributes so much more than just “points scored” in the scoresheet, A super star? NO DOUBT and truly one that gets it and knows the game! Gotta mention Jarett Allen too. Perhaps the unsung hero, X factor of this team. He does what is needed and when it is needed. He may not be in the finishing group at times but again, that is Kenny doing what he is great at doing…knowing who to have the court when needed.

Watch this team play…as noted they are special but so it their play. They had 25 assists last night compared to 17 for the Bucks. Share and care baby! Being fair it seems like late in games they do not take boxing out seriously and offensive rebounds by opponents lead to more of their shots and chances to score so let’s work on this Cavs.

I still wonder who the Cavs stopper is at times. Okoro or recently acquired Hunter perhaps. I have seen Bridges go off for 46 and Giannis 30 but then I take a step back and think these gents took 32 and 24 shots respectively to get their points with very little help elsewhere except for the Bucks as Dame tallied 22.

Think about this…the Cleveland Cavaliers are 54-10 with 18 games to go. They play 82 and they may have fewer losses than a team (who for some unexplainable reason gets any love at all) that plays 17 games!

Now what do the CAVS need to do to make this a successful season? THEY ARE DOING IT AND IT ALREADY IS SUCCESSFUL. Just keep winning CAVS!

Gotta air this out too as so many people (not going to call them fans) FLIP FREAKING OUT over the CAVS “City Edition” uniforms and the design on the hardwood; YES, the team’s colors are WINE AND GOLD and the City Edition is meant to be something different. If it bothers you that much do not go to the games when they are using it or watch. SHEESH friends, surely you need more to your lives. There, I got my scolding out of the way

Here’s what we do know. We have 2 pro teams in our great city that have front offices who know what they are doing. yeah, support them.
