All good in my old ‘hood as the Cleveland Guardians head to Cincy! I must say the neighborhoods truly make this city great! From 3412 E. 53rd, to 3990 JoAnn Dr and then to the “Alphabet Streets” in Solon at 6566 Glenallen I treasure my roots in a big way!
Let’s talk Cleveland Guardians! Sunday’s win at the Tropicana dump was needed and the team came through with a 9-2 drubbing of the Rays. A big reason was THE ACE Tanner Bibee who tossed 7 innings, gave up 7 hits, 2 runs, 0…ZERO WALKS and K’s 5! Big Sam Hentges and Michael Kelly each contributed an inning of goose eggs! Think about this and the reality was it DID NOT HAPPEN but the Guards were ready to sweep a team 12 over and in a dog fight for 1st in the East! Yes the Guardians are also in a fight for first in the Central but many more games like this weekend when the Bullpen snatches defeat from the jaws of victory will not allow this is happen!
Talk about the “Hit Parade” for the guys with “C” on their cap here you go:
* Friday 10 hits and 1 HR (Myles!!)
* Saturday 13 hits and 0 HR’s
* Sunday 15 hits and 2 HR’s (Gimenez and Arias)
Now of course a team does not have to hit the long ball to win games but it sure helps and please in this last series it was not the sticks.
What else happened Sunday and I love this part of the team especially since Amed Rosario departed and Josh Naylor is on the shelf…the TEAM MANNED UP after Saturday’s loss especially the bats and put nine runs on the board. Truly the pen was not going to blow this lead! After Saturday’s game the players hung in the dugout instead of rushing to the clubhouse after a loss and were hurt and angry. Not at each other but at themselves. It was the proverbial “Look in the mirror” scenario and they responded. I will say with Jose and Josh out the team is truly playing with not only their top two hitters out but two of the better players in baseball! Cop out? NOPE! Reality.
Now the team heads to Cincy for two against a Redlegs team that has turned the corner. They are 4 games over five hundo and also fighting for a post season berth. We also know that are Cleveland “wannabes” and the best parts of their city (except for Mt. Adams) are in Kentucky and YES…I am having fun.
Let’s win 2 in Cincy!!
