Isaiah “Big Dog” Johnson led the way for the Akron Zips on Friday night, scoring a game-high 21 points in a 70-63 win over Eastern Michigan.
The Zips remain unbeaten in MAC play and handed the Eagles their second conference loss of the season.
Akron (16-3, 6-0) has won nine straight and the victory extends its home win-streak to 27 games at Rhodes Arena, a school record for consecutive home wins and the third-longest active home streak in NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball.
The Zips are back in action on Jan. 24 at Western Michigan (6-11, 2-3) and after beating two of the top teams in the MAC this week, Akron continues to inch its way up near the AP Top 25.
With the loss, Eastern Michigan (12-7, 4-2) falls to second in the MAC West, one game behind Northern Illinois (12-6, 4-1).
Akron is two games up on Ohio University (11-5, 3-2) in the East.
