A LOOK AT WHAT’S HAPPENING
MEN’S BASKETBALL
• CSU (7-16, 2-8 HL) returns home to host Detroit on Thursday at 7:30 pm and Oakland at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
• The Vikings will retire the jersey of Norris Cole (2008-11) on Saturday in a pre-game ceremony. Cole ranks third in CSU history in scoring (1,978), fourth in assists (455) and seventh in steals (207). He helped the Vikings to three postseason berths, including the 2009 NCAA tournament where CSU defeated Wake Forest in the first round.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
• Cleveland State (4-15, 1-8 HL) will start the second half of Horizon League play this week, hosting Detroit on Thursday (5:30 pm) and Oakland on Saturday (3:00 pm).
• On Saturday, the Vikings will be retiring the jersey of Kailey Klein (2007-10), who finished her career as the all-time leading scorer in program history and led the Vikings to two Horizon League Championships.
• The ceremony for Klein will take place during halftime of the men’s game which is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
MEN’S & WOMEN’S FENCING
• The Vikings will host the John Szent Kiraly Open on Saturday in Woodling Gym after CSU competed at the Notre Dame Duals over the weekend.
WOMEN’S GOLF
• The Vikings open the spring season this weekend when CSU travels to Orlando, Fla., to compete in a dual match against Youngstown State on Saturday and Sunday at Rio Pinar GC.
• Allyson Hackman led the Vikings during the fall season with a 77.5 scoring average and owns the lowest scoring average in school history at 77.4
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
• The Vikings will compete in their final dual meet of the season this weekend, traveling to Buffalo for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet on Saturday, February 6.
• CSU fell at Oakland in its final League dual meet of the season. Tommi Wolst and Szymon Golczyk picked up five of Cleveland State’s six first place finishs, while Philipp Sikatzki earned the Vikings’ final individual victory.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
• Cleveland State will compete in its final dual meet of the season this weekend, traveling to Buffalo for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet on Saturday, February 6.
• The Vikings fell at Horizon League foe Oakland on Saturday, and were paced by Molly McNamara and Tori Taffner who recorded all five of Cleveland State’s individual first place finishes.
MEN’S TENNIS
• Cleveland State will try to keep its record perfect on the season this weekend, as the Vikings are set to travel to Michigan (Friday, Feb. 5) and Michigan State (Saturday, Feb. 6).
• The Vikings are 3-0 to start the year after picking up a 6-1 victory over IUPUI last weekend. Joe VanMeter and Kevin Goth are both 3-0 singles record this spring, while VanMeter is also 3-0 in doubles with teammate Andre Mick.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
• Cleveland State will hit the road for the first time this spring, as the Vikings are set to take on Northern Illinois (Saturday, Feb. 6) and Butler (Sunday, Feb. 7).
• The Vikings fell at West Virginia, 6-1, on Friday, picking up the doubles point for the first time this season.
WRESTLING
• CSU (7-5, 3-2 EWL) returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings compete in the Edinboro Open at 9:00 am.
• The Vikings earned an 18-15 win at Lock Haven on Sunday in their lone action last week. CSU jumped out to a 12-0 lead with wins from Xavier Dye (184 lbs), Sam Wheeler (197 lbs) and Riley Shaw (HWT).
• With the match tied at 15-15, Gabe Stark clinched the win for CSU with an 8-6 sudden victory at 174 pounds.
VIKING OF THE WEEK
Tommi Wolst, Men’s Swimming, Freshman, Leipzig, Germany
Wolst continued his strong freshman season by winning three events in a dual at Oakland on Saturday. Wolst earned first place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (56.10), 200 backstroke (1:50.72), and the 200 individual medley (1:50.82) to lead the Vikings.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jibri Blount: The men’s basketball freshman made his second career start on Saturday, finishing with a career-high 15 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Mirko Radosevic: The men’s tennis sophomore earned wins at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles to lead CSU to a 6-1 victory over IUPUI on Friday.
Gabe Stark: The junior wrestler earned an 8-6 sudden victory at 174 pounds in the final match of the day to lift CSU past Lock Haven, 18-15, on Sunday.
