The last option and my personal choice if the guys I don’t think will be there indeed aren’t would be to trade down yet again. While angering more fans isn’t towards the top of their list, acquiring more draft picks is. The team could get a decent offer for a team looking to move up for one of these players that has fallen to that point.
The Titans at 15 might be a potential partner. They just gained a lot of picks from the Rams and may be willing to give some of those extra picks up if they find a guy they like, possibly Vernon Hargreaves who may not make it past Tampa at nine.
If Ezekiel Elliott falls, the Dolphins at 13 may be another consideration. The Browns options at 13 or 15 would expand even more to include a wider list of players at more positions. Suddenly a lot more WRs, the next two OTs, the second tier CBs, and some of the top defensive lineman come into play while adding another second round pick to their arsenal.
The top half of this draft is very weak as I’ve mentioned. Outside the top six, the lines get blurry in regard to prospects. Who the Browns get at 15 wouldn’t be that much better than somebody they could get at 32.
That’s why trading down makes even more sense to me. They have already almost eliminated themselves from getting a so called elite player from this draft for more compensation, why not move down again if somebody else is willing to give up more than they should? I’d be more inclined for a combination of WR Laquon Treadwell Ole Miss, OT Jason Spriggs Indiana, and CB Artie Burns Miami than Ezekiel Elliott and Michael Thomas that the fans would likely prefer.
A trade gives them a greater opportunity to hit on a player and also a chance for another starter.
The ball is in the hands of Sashi Brown and nobody has any clue what he is going to do with it. He says they are locked in on their guy at eight if he’s still there. I’m not quite buying that because that guy could be someone like Laremy Tunsil or Jalen Ramsey who would obviously top their board but not be there.
I think the Browns in the end will end up trading the pick for more draft picks but I could be wrong. Let’s hope this is the draft that begins to turn things around and we can be picking 32 again soon in the opposite sense of things.
