Jake Lowery was 3-3 and Will Lazzaro threw 4 innings of shutout baseball as Gilmour defeated West Geauga 10-0 in five innings on Friday afternoon.
“The other day our bats finally came alive early and often and I was really happy to see that continue on through today,” said Gilmour Acting Head Baseball Coach Bill Schneider. “Our defense has been spectacular all year. Same thing with our pitching.”
Will Lazzaro continued Gilmour’s early season dominance on the mound. Pitching four innings of scoreless baseball, Lazzaro struck out 4 and only allowed three base runners.
“I was struggling to get my fastball (over) early in the count, was getting behind early, not throwing first pitch strikes,” said Lazzaro. “Was able to battle back and get back in counts and eventually all my pitches were working and I was able to get outs and the defense was able to make great plays.”
Offensively, Gilmour got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as they scored three runs.
They added five more in the fourth and closed out the game with two runs in the bottom of the 5th for the 10-0 victory.
The Gilmour bats were hot throughout the game as they amassed 14 hits, and were led by Lowery who was 3-3.
“Led off going oppo on the first one and sprayed it middle the other two,” said Lowery. “I am really just going with what the pitcher gave me. All the work we have been putting in outside and in practice, it really paid off today.”
In addition to Lowery’s 3-3 performance, other standout performances at the plate by Gilmour hitters included those by Ben Christopher (2-3, 2 RBI), Tommy McCrone (2-4), Jesse Shepherd (2-3), and Zach Titas (2-4, 3 RBI).
With the victory, Gilmour remains undefeated at 8-0 and they are currently ranked 5th in the Maxpreps OHSAA Division II rankings.
