The only other name that really stands out is Kyle Juszczyk the FB for Baltimore. That’s not encouraging. As enticing as draft picks are, sometimes it makes sense to take the known player if the price is right and the match makes sense.
Speaking of encouraging, it’s not great for the fans either. Browns fans have no reason to renew season tickets or want to watch this team. The Browns are set to try again with yet another QB, who has Brian Hartline and Andrew Hawkins as his top two WRs, and an offensive line that’s missing a lot of starters on the right side.
It’s also watching the NFL’s most overpaid defense. There is no reason for fans to be encouraged seeing their top players walk for fourth and fifth round picks. None.
It would be one thing if they signed for money that was way over the market price but the Browns with 37 million in cap space has just sat back. I don’t understand the rationale for not giving 6 million to Benjamin, 6.5 million to Schwartz, 7 million to Gipson, or 9.5 to Mack roughly.
Those are fair prices. I understand the rebuild but why not bring somebody back at least. They talk about wanting to build continuity and not fire people but yet that don’t start at the most basic aspect of it in resigning players.
Not only have they not brought people back they can’t get rid of them either. Why wasn’t Johnny Manziel cut? There’s no way you can seriously think anybody would offer anything for Manziel.
Who wants to trade for a guy on a guaranteed rookie contract who obviously doesn’t care about football and has possible charges and discipline coming against him? Just cut him and end the saga already.
Dwayne Bowe, the nine million dollar five catch man is still on the team. Why don’t they just get rid of him to save money too already? The Browns should have done something that makes sense for the football team and to give fans hope. Instead we have silence and frustration.
Going into a rebuild, I already put that I didn’t expect them to be big spenders. What I didn’t expect was for them to do absolutely nothing. Players are moving fast and the top options are all going to be gone. The Browns will be picking from the scraps yet again. At least when the Indians sign an injured veteran to a one year deal, they can trade them at the deadline for a prospect. The Browns are stuck giving a bad contract or finding a new way to embarrass themselves.
With reports that they are lost and struggling in negotiations only hurts. The fact they had little football experience to begin with only amplifies the jokes butted in the direction of Lake Erie. The sadness is real. All our key players are gone in addition to the young players on the market which they could have started to build a team around supplemented with draft picks.
