2) Dayes-ed and confused
Talk about solidifying a roster spot. Browns running back Matthew Dayes put on a show in the motor city. Dayes made the most of his eight carries, breaking free for 77 yards, highlighted by a 42-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. He also caught two passes for 34 yards. It was quite the night for the 2017 seventh-round draft pick, who is caught in a tough situation being part of one of the Browns deepest position groups.
With Carlos Hyde, Nick Chubb – who also scored a TD – and Duke Johnson all in front of him on the depth chart, it’s hard to see him establishing a role at running back. Fortunately, Dayes has also shown he can contribute on special teams which means his performance on Thursday night is just the cherry on top. He could have earned himself a roster spot. It is worth noting though that he did leave the game with a knee injury. Hopefully, that’s not what costs him a job.
