4. There’s Always The D-League
When talking about the open roster spot created by trading Harris, we’d be remised not to mention how the sharp-shooter from the University of Virginia spent most of his Cavalier career playing with the Canton Charge in the D-League.
Who’s to say the Cavs couldn’t do the same with Oden if they wanted to give him a test-run?
The NBA allows veteran players to give teams consent that they are willing to play in the D-League. So if Oden were to sign with the Cavs, they could reach an agreement beforehand that he would be open to playing in Canton either at the beginning of his contract or if he starts to play poorly in the NBA.
Maybe the Cavs start Oden in Canton, see how he does, and if he can work his way up.
Maybe the Cavs start Oden in Cleveland, and if he needs to improve, send him to Canton. Either way, it’s an option.
