2. Rim-Protector Needed?
It’s no secret the Cavs are shopping Timofey Mozgov. Mozgov’s contract is up after the 2015-2016 season and it’s unlikely he will re-sign with Cleveland. The Cavs have been linked to several wing players, like Ben McLemore, Kyle Korver, and Jared Dudley to name a few.
If the Cavs use Mozgov as a trade-piece to acquire a wing player, it would create somewhat of a void in the frontcourt.
This is not to say Oden could step in and become a starting center by any stretch of the imagination. But could he provide valuable minutes off the bench?
It’s not like Anderson Varejao and Sasha Kaun are doing much. The only other option we’ve heard in terms of big men coming to Cleveland is Kosta Koufos, who happened to go to Ohio State also, but there’s no guarantee the Kings even want to ship him to Cleveland.
It’s pretty much a guarantee if an NBA team is willing to give Oden a shot, he’ll come. Even for the league minimum.
