Giminez Gets W’s
Giminez, who has taken a lot of criticism for his lack of offensive production, much of it deservedly so, could be pointed to as a “weak link” in the Indians lineup.
The only problem with that line of thinking is that even with his low average and unimpressive stats, the most important stat of all is wins, and when Giminez plays, the Indians have a tendency of getting those W’s.
The right-handed hitting catcher has played 42 games, but often he will come in late in the game as a defensive substitution or will be replaced in the seventh inning or later.
Since Giminez was acquired on May 3 from the Texas Rangers, the catcher has made three or more plate appearances in 25 games.
If we isolate those 25 games in which he made at least three plate appearances, the Indians are 16-9. If he hurts the lineup as much as some fans and critics portray, then it wouldn’t make sense for the team to have a .640 win-percentage when he makes at least three trips to the plate. It must not be hurting the team that much after all.
Possibly Giminez’s biggest value is what he has done with Trevor Bauer. The duo has been great together, as Bauer went 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA in June, but had a bit of a rough July, going 1-2 with a 5.19 ERA.
Even with the rough July, the Indians won two out of the five games Bauer started.
Manager Terry Francona may opt to use Perez more than Giminez, but there’s reason to suggest that the journeyman catcher, who has played for four teams in eight years, gives the team just as much of a chance to win as anyone on the roster has this season.

This could quite possibly be the dumbest article I’ve ever read. Lucroy vetoed because he was told he would be a part time backup next season…
To say Gimenez or the other jokers behind the plate are even close to Lucroy’s talent is ridiculous…when you have guys batting .165 at a position you have a serious problem. Lucroy is not only clutch, but hits over 300 consistently and also hits for power…not to mention his pitch framing and defense.
I get being a hometown homer…but comeon man

Thanks for reading! Did he really veto because of that or was that what his agent fed reporters? More than one side to every story!
If you misread any point in the article that you thought said Giminez and Perez were more-talented or close to as talented as Lucroy, that’s unfortunate. But it never says that at any point. Direct quote: “This is not to say Perez and Giminez are better or even close to as talented as Lucroy, but perhaps Perez and Giminez are just the right guys when it comes to this situation.”
Also he has hit above .300 in 2 out of 7 seasons… so saying he hits above .300 consistently is not true at all. Lucroy’s career-high in home runs was 18 in 2013. Aside from that he has never hit more than 13 home runs in a season. This season he might hit 20 if he keeps up at the pace he’s going.
