As Spring Training gets underway in Goodyear, Arizona, there are a number of unsigned free-agents still looking for a shot to land with an MLB club.
The Cleveland Indians have already made a few relatively big moves compared to off-seasons in recent memory and have made a number of small moves that went somewhat under the radar.
However, when the Tribe is looking to contend in what appears to be one of the most competitive divisions in baseball, the A.L. Central, with the likes of the defending champion Kansas City Royals, the high payroll of the Detroit Tigers, the improved Chicago White Sox, and the young, up and coming Minnesota Twins, it’s far from a lock that the current roster will make a run at the division crown. Even a wild card spot is far from a guarantee.
This is not to say that any of these free-agents still looking for work would put the Tribe over the top and make them a favorite to win the pennant, but could they help add some depth? Let’s take a look at five free-agent position players the Tribe could potentially sign at the last minute and some reasons why they each could be a good fit and improve the roster.
Let’s start with the top target.
