It was a night of rear naked chokes in UFC 196, as Nate Diaz landed the second big shocker of the night, making Conor McGregor submit at 4:12 of the second round in the main event to take home a win that not many saw coming.
Diaz of course was a fill-in and had just about two weeks to train for the fight, but after a somewhat slow start, he was able to get the job done near the end of the second round.
“I’m always in shape,” Diaz said. “I knew I was going to start off slow, I’m faster than everybody.”
Diaz landed a shot to McGregor, who just never seemed to get in sync for whatever reason, and then he was able to take McGregor down, and eventually get the choke for the win.
“I took the chance, I felt I took him the first round, I respect Nate, he took the job in short notice, he was efficient, I was not efficient,” McGregor said.
“It is what it is, I’ll face it like a man and come back again. Humble in victory, humble in defeat.”
