Free Agents the Browns Should Pursue During 2016 NFL Free Agency

Jason Pierre-Paul

11.) Leon Hall CB Cincinnati Bengals
Hall is one I’m not personally as big on as other people but I understand the thought. The Hue Jackson connection is really strong this year with a lot of players from the Bengals being eligible for free agency. There’s even more free agents that I didn’t feel match the Browns needs. Cornerback is a position I don’t like signing older players to because these young talented WRs are so fast and athletic that older corners tend to have problems. Tramon Williams was a prime example. He’s a solid corner but between Haden, Williams, and Gilbert, the Browns already have about 24 million in cap tied up to the position. The Browns would benefit much more cutting Gilbert or Williams after the season due to their contracts and signing Hall would push the Browns north of 30 million for corners. They need a second corner but not at this kind of money for a 31 year old.

12.) Jason Pierre-Paul DE New York Giants
Signing a guy who blew up his own hand isn’t high on my list but hear me out on this one. This is a weak draft and free agency for edge pass rushers. Desmond Bryant led the Browns in sacks this season with six. The team has gotten nothing from Mingo, Kruger, or Orchard so far. While his cast arm makes him a liability in finishing up plays, he still is one of the top free agent pass rushers out there. Even if he doesn’t get the sacks and tackles, blowing up plays and teams scheming to him will play a role we’ve lacked. Our new defensive line coach, Robert Nunn, spent the last six seasons as the Giants defensive line coach. He’s familiar with JPP and how to use him. I’d be hesitant but he may worth a discussion.
