5.) Surround Your Young QB With Talent
If there’s one other thing that has frustrated me about the Browns it’s that they don’t seem to put their QB in a situation to succeed. Yes, the team has put together a decent line for them but they have voided them of playmakers. There is always something missing for them. If the Browns want to finally find their franchise QB, they need to put them in a position to succeed. The line should be better than last year. Joe Thomas is still arguably the best LT in the game.
Alex Mack is a top five center. Joel Bitonio is a great young LG and Mitchell Schwartz has high praise around the league at RT. Keeping the line together would be a huge help for a young QB. Also giving some playmakers at receiver would be wonderful. The Browns will hopefully have Josh Gordon reinstated. Signing Travis Benjamin would be another help for the QB to go along with Gary Barnidge. If they can sign a free agent WR in a weak class and draft another one suddenly they have options to throw to.
Duke Johnson flashed talent in his rookie season but if the Browns can find the bell cow back they desire, and draft a QB second overall like expected, the whole offense is set up much better to succeed. The Jaguars are a perfect example of that. Look at the difference between the team two years ago and last season. After putting more talent around Bortles, he had a major breakthrough season and is a possible top ten QB in the NFL. The Browns should follow that plan.
