2.) Don’t Overpay Players
The Cleveland Browns are not an attractive destination if we’re being honest. Who would want to come to a team that Vegas has determined is three times less likely to win the Super Bowl than any other team. Who would also want to play for a team that has seen the postseason once since 1999 and constantly fires people. It’s a hard sell to free agents. The main way to overcome that hurdle is to overpay free agents to come play here because at the end of the day money talks.
The Browns should take some notes of other teams that have spent lots of money in free agency like the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints and learn from their mistakes. This is a multi-year process whether we want to admit it or not. There is no rush to dramatically improve this team and cost you in the long run with bad contracts. Actually drafting well will be the key to the off-season. The Browns main focus with free agency should be keeping their own players and signing a few players they have targeted that fit what they are trying to do without overpaying for major free agents.
