For the second time in less than a year a change is going to happen in Cleveland morning drive sports talk radio.
Thursday night on Sports Extra on television station WUAB-CLE43, Kevin Kiley of the ‘Kiley and Carman’ show announced in an interview with WOIO/WUAB Sports Director Tony Zarella that he is resigning from 92.3 ‘The Fan’ effective at the end of February, if not sooner.

During the interview, Kiley emphasized that he decided to resign his position at the CBS Radio owned sports talk radio station back in November. It’s an indication that his contract with WKRK-FM was up at the end of February.
Kiley has taken some heat both locally and nationally in the last few weeks after making very critical comments about the Buffalo Bills decision to hire Kathryn Smith as the first full time female coach in the National Football League.
Kiley has wanted to explain his why he made the comments he did, but he says that CBS Radio will not allow him to defend himself. During Thursday night’s interview, Kiley denounced censorship over this incident. Kiley claims it’s the first time in his 35 year broadcasting career that he has ever been censored.
Kiley has been with WKRK-FM since the station became an FM sports talk radio station back in August, 2011. Kiley has been on the morning drive slot the entire time.
Last May, Kiley’s original co-host on 92.3 ‘The Fan’ Chuck Booms was fired by the station. Booms was replaced by current morning drive co-host Ken Carman, who was promoted from the 7 p.m. to midnight shift.
It will be interesting to see what management at 92.3 ‘The Fan’ will do with its morning show. Will they go out and find a new co-host to team up with Carman or could a whole new crew be brought in as a fresh start to morning drive on Cleveland’s FM sports talk radio station.
Kiley was not on the air Friday morning following the announcement on Thursday.
