As (3) Ohio State gets set to take on (14) Oklahoma in a tough road match, here are a few areas to keep an eye on throughout the game and players to watch on both sides:
Urban’s Road Win-Streak
Head coach Urban Meyer is 17-0 in true road games since taking over the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes have gone 52-4 overall during Meyer’s tenure, with two losses coming at neutral sites and two losses at home.
Ashtabula vs. Youngstown
Meyer, born and raised in Ashtabula, squares off against Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops, also a native of Youngstown, Ohio.
It’s no secret that Ohio is a hotbed for football and has produced some of the best coaches in the history of the game.
Meyer and Stoops are two of the most-revered college football coaches of the modern era and it should be an interesting chess game to watch.
J.T. Barrett vs. Baker Mayfield
Barrett grew up in Wichita Falls, TX, while Mayfield is a native of Austin, TX. They’re both Heisman contenders and have high touchdown to interception ratios.
Fans might be in store for a good ole’ fashioned Oklahoma shootout on Saturday night.
Curtis Samuel, Mike Weber, Dontre Wilson vs. Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine
Ohio State’s running backs, most notably Samuel and Weber made Tulsa and Bowling Green look foolish. However, Oklahoma will be a true challenge. Mixon and Perine did not make a huge impact in Oklahoma’s loss to Houston in Week 1 and perhaps Stoops will look to establish the run early in this showdown.
Malik Hooker, Marshon Lattimore, Gareon Conley vs. Jordan Thomas and Ahmad Thomas
Both of these secondaries have elite playmakers, as Hooker came away with three interceptions in two games, Lattimore picked off two passes in Week 2 and Conley has an interception, as well.
Jordan and Ahmad both have a chance to be selected in the 2017 NFL Draft and will have one of the toughest tasks in all of college football, the job of containing Ohio State’s weapons.
Other players to watch:
Ohio State: DE Sam Hubbard, LB Raekwon McMillan
Oklahoma: LT Orlando Brown, WR Mark Andrews
