What a huge night Monday for Tori Copfer and the Avon Lake girls varsity team as they did something that Avon Lake High School hasn’t pulled off in 7 long years.
After being down at the half 1-0 to the High Powered Magnificat attack, the Avon Lake Shore “ladies” rallied in the second half to take the big 2-1 victory in thrilling fashion.
It was their first win against Magnificat High School since 2010 and took a total team effort.
In a terrific second half of play for Copfer, she scored the first goal for Avon Lake, and then assisted on the second one scored by Stephanie Carr. That goal by Carr ended up being the game winner.
A stout defense saw strong play by Danielle DelGuidice, Kelly Spitz, Liz Murdock, Casey Whalen, Olivia Jedlicka, and Ally Harper. They used communication and precise timing to keep Mags out of the goal in the second half.
The home win improves their record to 6-7-1. They next play Wednesday night at Amherst.
