Ever hear of Old Hoss Radbourn? How about Arthur Irwin? Yeah, you’d have to go back – WAY back to know who those guys are, but those players now have something in common with the likes of Corey Kluber and Frankie Lindor.
Radbourn and Irwin were two players on the 1884 Providence Grays, a team that also won 27 of 28 games, a mark the Indians hit on Thursday when they beat the Angels in Los Angeles.
The Grays finished the season 84-28, and won the World Series, topping the New York Metropolitans in a three-game sweep.
The tweet below also talks about another team winning 27 of 28 games, the New York Giants, who reached the same heights back in 1916.
That team, which Indians fans likely have heard of during their 22-game win streak, went 27-1-1 at one point during that 1916 campaign.
The odd thing about that Giants team is that they finished fourth under John McGraw, and ended the year 86-66, seven games back.
The Indians road show moves on to Seattle Friday night, a chance to again further themselves in history.
