3rd Round
The Browns will trade away their highest compensatory pick to New England for Jamie Collins.
C/G Pat Elflein Ohio State
Browns fans are clamoring for a center to replace Cam Erving who has been nothing short of a major disappointment. After getting a chance to move to a more natural position of center he has been so bad there the team tried kicking him back out to RT for week 17. This draft isn’t a strong one inside but if the Browns need a position on the line it is at center. Elflein has the versatility at Ohio State to play different positions along the line and could play center or guard in the NFL. Among the centers, he is probably the best pass blocker of the bunch. Cleveland allowed a league high 66 sacks this year, 17 more than the closest team. With injured QBs and allowing one more sack per game than any team the Browns need somebody in the middle to protect the QB.
4th Round
Cleveland traded away their fourth round pick this year to Philadelphia in the Carson Wentz this deal. I’m making a conservative guess that the Browns will get at least one compensatory pick in this round after losing Alex Mack, Mitchell Schwartz and Tashaun Gipson and trading their highest one for Collins. That could leave the Browns with one pick at the end of the round.
WR Amba Etta-Towa Syracuse
Cleveland took four WRs in the 2016 NFL Draft and all four made the team. On the year they combined for just 58 catches for 698 yards and 3 TDs. Three other rookie WRs had more catches, Michael Thomas had more yards and four more had more TDs (five if you include Hunter Henry). With the majority of that coming from first round pick Corey Coleman, the front office may have to dip back into the WR pool to come up with another WR that might add some production. Etta-Tawo had a breakout year after transferring to Syracuse from Maryland and finishing with 14 TDs on the year. He’s got good size and the ability to make big plays but is still a little raw. Al Saunders did really well on improving Terrelle Pryor so maybe he can do with same with Amba.
