WR Sterling Shepard NYG
Shepard is the rookie WR I’m keeping my eyes on. I thought he was a very polished receiver at running routes and catching tough footballs. His height is really what hurt him, but the Giants are a perfect fit. They lack a running game so Eli will throw a lot. No WR in the NFL might draw more attention than ODB, leaving Shepard the ability to get open with his clean routes. I don’t think a 900 yard and eight TD season is out of the question by any means.
WR Torrey Smith SF
Chip Kelly has always gotten the most from his top WR wherever he has been and Torrey Smith is that guy for San Francisco. He was ravaged by poor QB play last year, catching more than three passes in a game just twice. With Kelly’s uptempo style, expect them to look Smith’s way a fair amount with his game breaking skill. They will find a way to get him the football whether it is going deep or short routes and letting him use his skills after the catch.
WR Kevin White CHI
There was some debate about who the better WR was between White and Amari Cooper before the draft. Cooper went first and caught 72 passes for 1,070 yards and six TDs. This season will be White’s first chance to show why there was a debate. He also has the fortune of playing alongside Alshon Jeffery. The last time Cutler had two great WRs for a full season was 2013. That year, Alshon Jeffery had 89 catches for 1,421 yards and seven TDs and Brandon Marshall had 100 catches for 1,295 yards and 12 TDs. I’m not saying White will be that, but his potential is on par with both of those WRs. I would not be surprised if he puts up big numbers.
