The online sportsbook, Bovada, released their first list of odds for players to win NBA MVP in 2016-17. Here are the top 10:
Russell Westbrook, Thunder: 2-to-1
Stephen Curry, Warriors: 4-to-1
LeBron James, Cavs: 5-to-1
Kevin Durant, Warriors: 12-to-1
Anthony Davis, Pelicans: 16-to-1
Kawhi Leonard, Spurs: 16-to-1
James Harden, Rockets: 16-to-1
Paul George, Pacers: 22-to-1
Blake Griffin, Clippers: 22-to-1
Damian Lillard, TrailBlazers: 28-to-1
If you want my two cents, (don’t spend it all at one casino) I would steer away from Curry and Durant because those two are going to share so much of the workload.
Although LeBron is always an MVP candidate, the way Kyrie Irving has developed into a true superstar, LeBron doesn’t need to play at “MVP” level for the Cavs to get the top seed in the East.
Heading into 2016-17, my top two choices to win the award are Westbrook and Davis.
Westbrook finally gets to be “the guy” in OKC and fans can expect triple-doubles and 30-plus point performances from the one-man wrecking crew in 2016-17.
Westbrook is the consensus pick by most, but if you happen to be in Las Vegas, that pick for “The Brow” looks pretty good.
The biggest risk with Davis is his injury history, but if he stays healthy for the whole season, he has a great shot to win the award.
