5. Rajon Rondo : Sacramento Kings
Hard to believe that we made it this far without mentioning Rondo, but when you lead the league in assists by a wide-margin, I’m going to put a lot of stock into that. It’s ultimately the main job of a point guard, right?
Rondo’s 11.7 assists per game is almost two more per game than the second player in that category. He also averages 6.4 rebounds per game, which is second-most among point guards. He is shooting an efficient .456 percent from the field, sixth-best among point guards. Granted, his scoring is not impressive, averaging just 12 points per game, but that’s not what he’s asked to do. He has a teammate in the top four in the league in scoring, DeMarcus Cousins. Those two are a great pair, but don’t have enough pieces around them to be a contending team. The other factor to consider is that neither one of those two players are known for being “high character” guys. But they can flat out play. Rondo is third in the NBA in triple-doubles with five this season.
