Brooklyn, Ohio – The OHSAA Hockey Quarterfinals continued Saturday afternoon, as #2 St. Edward’s faced off with #8 Avon.
Avon put up a great fight, but could not get anything going offensively, falling to St. Ed’s 2-0.
After a scoreless six minutes to start the game, Paul D’Amico put St. Ed’s on the board.
Neither side would score the rest of the frame, as Avon Goaltender Danny Fielding made 20 saves in the period and St. Ed’s would lead 1-0 at the end of the period.
The physicality picked up in the second period, as one player after another was sent to the penalty box from each side.
Avon’s offense could not get going, but Fielding made 20 more saves in the frame to keep it a one-score game heading into the final period.
Five minutes into the third period, Curtis Szelesta made it 2-0 with a power play goal.
St. Ed’s would hold on to win 2-0, as goaltender Warren Hill earned a 15-save shutout.
Fielding made 61 saves in the loss, and Avon’s season would come to an end with a record of 22-10-0.
St. Ed’s advances to face the winner of #3 Padua vs #6 North Olmsted in the District Semi-Finals on Wednesday night at 7 PM.
