2-0 Westlake Plays Host to 1-1 Avon Lake Friday Night in High School Football Action for Week 3

The Westlake Demons faithful will be out in full force on Friday night as they open up the home portion of their schedule as they battle the Avon Lake Shoremen at 7pm on the brand new new synthetic turf at University Hosptials St. John Medical Center Stadium.

The Demons are off to a quick start to the season, winning their first two games in 2016 under the guidance of head coach Jason Hall.

They have played two close contests to start 2016, topping Eastlake North 30-28 in their opener, and then last week topping Olmsted Falls 34-31.

In the win over Falls, the Demons won in spectacular fashion, as the they struck in the final seconds for a huge win.

Trey Bialowas, who accounted for five touchdowns in the win, hit wide out Trevor Bielozer with a 20-yard score to win the game with just two seconds to play to get the huge win in the Southwestern Conference opener.

Trey Bialowas Westlake Westlake led it 20-10 at the half over Olmsted Falls, but the Bulldogs battled back and had the lead before the QB and WR pulled off the miracle win in the last seconds.

Bialowas had scored twice on runs earlier in the contest, but in the final seconds was able to use his arm to get the win for Westlake.

As for the Shoremen of Avon Lake, their 2016 season got off to a good start, as they won their opener, topping Kevin Fell’s Elyria Pioneers 23-21 on opening night.

They were not so lucky in week two, as they were beat up by a very good Avon Eagles team 31-7 in their Southwestern Conference opener.

The Shoremen got off to a quick start against the Eagles in the week two affair, as Carson Toy scored on the opening drive from a yard out to give Avon Lake a quick 7-0 lead.

The game turned though early in the second quarter as Jacob Krukowski’s punt for Avon Lake was blocked, the Eagles recovered on the Shoremen 4-yard line, and Avon never looked back, scoring 31 straight points.

Avon Lake had one more shot to make it interesting late in the first half, but had a touchdown pass negated by a penalty, and then at the Avon one decided to gamble and go for it, and were stopped on a toss play.

The inability for the Shoremen to score seemed to kill any momentum, and the second half completely belonged to the Eagles in the 24-point win, with 21 of the points coming in the third quarter.

If the Shoremen are going to hand Westlake their first loss of 2016, they have to limit the mistakes, and covert drives, two things that seemed to haunt them on Friday against Avon.

Westlake will again lean on the leadership and strong play of Bialowas, who has been sensational to start the year in the pair of Demon wins.

Add in what should be an amazing atmosphere in the Westlake opener with their new turf, and there’s no doubt that Avon Lake has their work cut out for them in what should be a stellar game in week three of Northeast Ohio high school football action.

Trey Bialowas is the quarterback. Trevor Bielozer was the receiver. They are not brothers.

Thanks for pointing it out Jim – we’ve corrected the mistake! Thank you!
