NORTHFIELD, Ohio – Typically most Americans only care about horse racing 3 weekends out of the year. If the same horse doesn’t win the Preakness that won the Kentucky Derby, then that number changes to only two weekends.
However, the Stronach Group, which owns and operates south Florida’s Gulfstream Park is out to change all of that and give race fans one more big payday weekend!,
They announced on Wednesday it will host the world’s richest horse race in 2017. The Pegasus World Cup is set for Jan. 28 and will carry a $12 million purse, more than the $10 million Dubai World Cup run each March.
The race will have 12 horses, each paying the $1 Million dollar entry fee, it is also winner take all!
The period between the Breeders’ Cup and Dubai World Cup is often lacking any excitement, this race will change that.
It will be 1 1/8 miles in length.
Only time will tell if this “Pegasus World Cup” will bring further interest into the sport.
