As the WWE approaches their 28th annual Summerslam this upcoming August, we here at NEO Sports Insiders thought we’d take everyone on a trip down memory lane and review the previous 27.
This columns edition featured the third annual and took place on August 27, 1990, at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The card was built around a double main event that saw The Ultimate Warrior successfully defend his WWF World Heavyweight Championship against Rick Rude in a steel cage match, and Hulk Hogan defeated Earthquake by countout. Both were terrible matches, but both had a ton of drama and the crowd made the best out of them.
The main highlights of the undercard included Kerry Von Erick upset Mr. Perfect for the Intercontinental title as well as The Hart Foundation unseat Demolition for the WWF Tag Team Titles. One sad note saw The Sweet Saphire except a bribe from The Million Dollar Man and leave Dusty Rhodes.
It wasn’t the best card, but one that summed up the end of the 1980’s generation perfectly, with the sole exception that it was in 1990.
